Dos and Don'ts of Botox

For many people, Botox is a great way for them to fix wrinkles and get a more youthful appearance. However, Botox is a surgical treatment that needs to be done correctly, or results can be unsatisfactory. There are plenty of things that can go wrong so to make sure the results are exactly as they should be. Here are some dos and don’ts for getting a Botox treatment.

DO: Make sure you choose a good dermatologist to do the treatment

This sounds like an obvious one, but some people don’t take the time to discuss the treatment with their doctor. If a doctor doesn’t have enough experience with Botox, you might not want to let them experiment on your face. A doctor with good reviews and an understanding of how Botox works is the kind of doctor you’ll want administering your treatment. Lucky for you, Dr. Grayman and our team of professionals know exactly what you’ll need!

DON’T: Take blood thinning medication for 1 week before your treatment.

Blood thinning medications will give you big fat bruises at the injection spots, which wouldn’t be pretty. Medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Excedrin, Vitamin E, fish oil, and St. John’s wart medicine will cause this kind of issue. Avoiding these for 1 week before you get Botox will minimize the bruising you’ll see.

DO: Use an icepack

Icing the injection spot will help to calm bruising and will help with the pain. Your skin will be sensitive and it’s important to take care of it. If you are feeling any pain, contact your doctor and get it looked at!

DON’T: Get any other skincare procedures done

Until you’re sure that your Botox treatment has fully set, don’t get any other treatments done. A facial might sound like a nice treat after poking your face with needles, but a face massage can move your Botox under the skin to places you don’t want it to be. Give it 24 hours before you have any other skin treatments done, or discuss it with your doctor to make sure you are making the right choice.

DO: Talk to your doctor

Your doctor knows what they are doing and if you have questions about how much Botox is too much, or what not to do after your treatment, you can get a straight answer from them. They want to give you the best experience possible and make sure you look beautiful.
