Do you feel like you spend too much time plucking your eyebrows, or do you have an embarrassing patch of hair on your back? The fact is, most people have at least one patch of hair that they would give anything to be rid of. If you are tired of shaving, plucking, or waxing and you’re looking for a long term, solution, laser hair removal could be it.

How it works – A light beam from the laser will target the hair follicle. Once the melanin (the dark pigmentation of the follicle) absorbs the light it will create heat. The heat damages the follicle, stopping the hair production. Although this may sound like a simple procedure, it requires a great deal of knowledge, and it should only be performed by an expert, like the members of the staff at Pure Skin Dermatology, people who you know you can trust.

This procedure will require several sessions because the laser is only effective on the hair follicles that are active. During your consultation, you can find out about how long each session will take and how many you will need. Typically, the sessions are six to eight weeks apart. The size of the treatment area will determine how long each session will need to be. Small patches of hair like those on your upper lip can be done in a few minutes, but larger areas such as the legs or back can take better than an hour.

Lasers work by targeting the dark pigment so it is challenging to treat patients with darkly pigmented skin, but this is a challenge that Dr. Grayman is capable of addressing. She trained at the Skin of Color Center, St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center; New York and this helped to give her the knowledge and understanding to address the specific hair and skin concerns affecting people from different ethnic backgrounds.
