How to Get a Healthy Tan This Summer

It’s officially summer in Florida! You know what that means… beautiful beach days, rainy afternoons, and bikini season. With temperatures getting up to the 100s out there, it’s important to stay hydrated and make sure you’re getting a healthy tan. We know you want to lay out in the sun, but make sure to keep it healthy and avoid getting a sunburn. Here are a few tips to take on the sun and prepare your skin for a day at the pool:

 

Keep it Clean

For a fresh start, make sure to wash your face and body with a gentle cleanser. The simpler the better! If your skin isn’t too sensitive, exfoliate afterwards to give your skin the best chance at getting a tan.

Get a Routine Down

Having a solid skincare routine and sticking to it is the best way to know your skin is ready for a tan. Wearing a moisturiser with SPF and washing your face every day is not only good for your skin, but will help you to make the best of the summer sun. It might take some trial and error to figure out what is best for you, but once you find a routine that works… stick to it!

SUNSCREEN

This one’s pretty obvious. No matter how often you tan or how dark your skin is, the sun’s harmful UV rays can damage anyone. Be sure to lather up with sunscreen and don’t forget to reapply! Knowing your skin type will help you choose the SPF level that is best for you. Tanning oils can be dangerous, so be sure to use one with SPF to avoid burning!

Know When To Stop

Your skin can only take so much, so it’s important to know when to hang out in the shade. Spending the day outside can be fun, but make sure you are paying attention to your body and your health! Be careful not to fall asleep on the beach and watch the clock. Laying out for any longer than 30 minutes is too much and will damage your skin.

Stay Away From Tanning Beds

The Florida sun is right outside and it’s free! Why should you pay to go sit in a tanning bed that is guaranteed to increase your risk of skin cancer. You wouldn’t eat fake fruit, so why would you tan under fake sunlight? It’s common sense! The best way to get a healthy tan is from the sun.
